The "Sustainable Water Use" panel, organized by the Environmental Issues Research and Application Center and the Sustainable Campuses Coordination at Manisa Celal Bayar University as part of their sustainability efforts, was held at the MCBU Prof. Ümit Doğay Arınç Cultural Center.
The panel was attended by Prof. Dr. Ali Demir, Dean of the Faculty of Hasan Ferdi Technology and Coordinator of Sustainable Campuses, Prof. Dr. Nüket Tirtom, Director of the Environmental Issues Research and Application Center and Chair of the Environmental Commission, as well as committee members Dr. Lecturer Hülya Avcı Özbek, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gözde Murat Saltan, Chair of the Transportation Commission Dilay Yıldırım Uncu, Water Management Commission member Dr. Lecturer Begüm Dağlı, and Ecem Tuncer Uysal, along with faculty members and many students.
In her opening speech, Prof. Dr. Nüket Tirtom emphasized that water is the fundamental source of life, stating, "The rapidly growing population, climate change, and overuse of water resources are threatening the future availability of water. Therefore, we must raise awareness about the sustainable use of water."
Following the opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Ali Demir, the panel moderator, highlighted the global and national significance of sustainability and shared the university's ongoing efforts in this field. He also discussed the Sustainability Report prepared by the Sustainability Commission and the GreenMetric application process, expressing his delight that students were involved in this process. Prof. Dr. Demir presented success certificates to Iremnur Sertakan, Reyhan Mete, Serdem Coşkun, İrfan Yıldırım, and Berrin Durmuş, who successfully completed the Millennium Fellowship Project.
During the panel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem Polat Çetinkaya from the Department of Civil Engineering at Dokuz Eylül University gave a presentation on "Sustainable Water Use in Agricultural Irrigation." This was followed by a talk by Birkan Akyol, Environmental Engineer and Civil Engineer, and Unit Manager at the OSB Wastewater Treatment Facility, who shared insights on "Sustainable Water Use in Industry." The final speaker, Prof. Dr. Ahmet A. Kumanlıoğlu, faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at MCBU and Chair of the Sustainable Water Management Commission, shared his experiences on "Sustainable Water Use in Households and Campuses."
The panel was enriched with questions from students, and at the end, Prof. Dr. Ali Demir presented certificates of appreciation to the speakers. The event concluded with a group photo.
