On March 28, 2024, while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Anesthesiology at Manisa Celal Bayar University's Hafsa Sultan Hospital, a patient named H.F. experienced brain death.
Following the occurrence of brain death, discussions were held with the family, and their consent was obtained for organ donation. Under the leadership of Organ and Tissue Transplant Coordinator Prof. Dr. Gönül Tezcan Keleş, along with Sadık Kaplan, Belgin Öztekin, and Saadet Saza, the operation was carried out in coordination with the 'Regional Coordination Center,' providing hope to patients waiting for transplants, including the heart, right and left kidneys, liver, and corneas.
After approximately twenty-four hours of operation, the organs were transferred to Ege University, Izmir Kent Hospital, Izmir Private Medical Point Hospital, and Istanbul Onkim Stem Cell Technologies Center to be transplanted to patients.
Commenting on the process, Prof. Dr. İsmet Topçu, the Chief Physician of MCBU Hafsa Sultan Hospital, emphasized their coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Health following the donation of H.F.'s organs. He praised Organ and Tissue Transplant Coordinator Prof. Dr. Gönül Tezcan Keleş and the entire team for their efforts. He expressed condolences to H.F.'s grieving family, stating, "May God have mercy on H.F., and I offer my condolences and patience to the bereaved family. H.F.'s organs will bring healing to many patients awaiting transplants. I thank the patient's family for their support and sensitivity regarding transplantation. As MCBU Hafsa Sultan Hospital, our support for transplant procedures will continue."
